LENOX — Jazz lovers will have a rare opportunity to celebrate the enduring legacy of two of America's greatest musical innovators when the Ted Rosenthal Quintet takes the stage at 7 pm on Sunday, July 26, in Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood.
"TLI Jazz: 100 Years of Miles and Coltrane" commemorates the centennial birthdays of jazz legends Miles Davis and John Coltrane with an evening of music performed by acclaimed pianist Ted Rosenthal and his trio. Joining the ensemble are internationally recognized guest artists Ingrid Jensen on trumpet and Jimmy Greene on saxophone, bringing to life the groundbreaking music that transformed American jazz.

Rosenthal, a familiar favorite with Tanglewood audiences, is an award-winning pianist, composer, educator and winner of the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition. He serves on the graduate studies faculty at The Juilliard School.
Those wishing to deepen their appreciation of jazz before the concert can attend TLI 101: Jazz at 4 pm on Friday, July 24, in Studio E at the Linde Center for Music and Learning. New this summer, the TLI 101 series offers audiences an accessible introduction to the music and artists featured throughout the Tanglewood Learning Institute season. Rosenthal will lead the discussion, sharing insights into the history, language and artistry of jazz.

In addition, attorney and arts leader Lesley Rosenthal will present a seven-part Tanglewood Learning Institute course titled "Arts and the Rule of Law," beginning Friday, July 3. Inspired by John Adams' vision of "a government of laws, not of men," the series explores how composers and visual artists have reflected the ideals of justice—and protested its absence—through works ranging from Beethoven's Eroica to Picasso's Guernica. Rosenthal brings decades of experience at the intersection of law and the performing arts to this timely exploration of art, democracy, and civic life.
