Otis Food Pantry Update: September

By Terry Gould

September 2025

Summer is beginning to dress in harvest tones, and we are looking forward to fall. Back to school for most everyone and the gardens are changing colors from green and yellow to red and orange.

At the Otis Food Pantry, we continue to be awed and humbled by the amount of kindness and generosity shown from neighbor to neighbor. We reached out to our local gardeners, and they responded. By mid-July we were visited by local gardeners who shared their overflow of vegetables and greens with us. The most beautiful produce that makes the morning smell fresh and clean. We are so grateful to all of you who came week after week, early on Wednesday morning and donated your amazing fresh products. Even our patrons are part of the team, bringing any extras from their own gardens. Everyone on both sides of the table shared and it was good for everyone. True soul food. Thank you to everyone who took part in this wonderful summer event.

The Pantry took part in the now annual school distribution drive sponsored by the Otis Police Department. From pencils to back packs, crayons to school snacks. There was something for everyone to check off their back-to-school lists.

As the weather begins to turn cooler, we will be looking to keep our non-perishable shelves stocked. Comfort food is wonderful to have on your shelf for a cool or stormy morning. Soups and vegetables, peanut butter and jelly and the always depleted, spaghetti sauce, school snacks and cold cereals. We will post a comprehensive list on our Facebook page for reference and know that there are owls and elves all over town who receive emails as well.

We have officially begun our 6th year and thank you all for continuing to support your neighbors. Cheers.
