Astrology: Minding the Store
By Hilary Harley
May 2026
May draws our focus to our bank account, on the Bottom Line of our lives, directing our mind toward both tangible and intangible resources: the good use of our time, energy, skills, as well as assets we can feel and touch.
May is prime planting season. How we invest our resources is key. As the where focus goes, energy flows.
The first of May brings a Full Moon in Scorpio opposite the Sun in Taurus. Where Taurus deals with our personal resources, Scorpio rules other people’s treasure, whether taxes, power, information, monetary assets or possessions. Lately, we feel the full weight of others’ decisions on our cost of living, such as higher prices to live via gas and groceries. There is a clear through-line to individual impact.
Increased costs lean that more heavily as Pluto turns retrograde on May 5, pushing us to be innovative with our resources. Innovation is the key word. Inventive idea exchange now raises awareness through mass media, social and otherwise. Be open to hearing different and alternative options for saving money where possible.
Kitchen table concerns and domestic agendas dominate the first week of May. People are coming to terms about family dynamics, housing, food, inherited ancestral programming and national/homeland concerns. With increased connective understanding, we demand that our basic needs be met.
May 13-14, looks particularly tumultuous with four planets in Ari impatient to get going. Make sure you ask questions before committing to anything or anyone.
By mid-May, our focus doubles down on resources. Sun, Moon and Messenger Mercury in pragmatic Taurus are Bottom Line driven. What is the ROI (return on investment) for our time, talents and treasure? Taurus wastes none of these.
By May 19, Mercury, Venus and Mars keep the focus on the domestic needs front. Venus attends to what feeds us (literally) along with our home life while Mars heightens our resource management, what we have or need more of. Mars is not about to let our attention waver minding the store, focusing our eyes on the price we pay in time, effort and money. Through the end of June we want a complete accounting of all funds incoming and out-going, assessing the cost versus benefit.
The Sun turns into Gemini on May 21, joining change agent Uranus. Life gets a little slippery as both challenge the Lunar Nodes. We want to have our cake and eat it too. Gemini is the Magician of the zodiac, aka the salesman, a polished smooth talker, particularly with Mercury now in Gemini to boot. The slick power of persuasion and sleight of hand are heavily at work. We may struggle to discern fact from fiction, spread ourselves too thin when opportunities present or overcommit to projects or people.
Mars in Taurus keeps it real, brings us back to earth. Remember that if something is too good to be true, it probably is. When opportunity does knock on your door, ask detailed and open-ended questions. Go ahead and reach for dreams while building coalitions, realistically firming up ideas and plans.
A Blue Moon, a second Full Moon, shines on Sunday, May 31. The Sagittarius Full Moon invites us into the cosmic schoolhouse as it aligns to Saturn and Neptune in fiery Aries. We are receiving a new type of education. It has us pushing boundaries and new frontiers.
Power is now securely in our own hands, self-determination driving our individual destiny, where we are the masters of our fate. Where our focus goes, energy flows. Be sure that all of your efforts unify and heal.
