Otis Community Garden Update

By Margie Klein

May 2026

As winter loosens its grip and the soil begins to warm one of the most satisfying early season tasks is pulling back the tarps. It is a sign of renewal. The compost was delivered and with the generous help of a Lee Boy Scout troop, we were able to spread it in the garden. Troy Fluckinger rototilled, the shed was cleaned, the fence was inspected for holes, and the equipment was checked. The garden will start by planting spinach, early lettuce, snow and snap peas, and frisée. There is a great feeling of satisfaction that you get from working at the garden. Some include picking for two pantries, enjoying delicious vegetables, creating friendships, and knowing that you are doing good. We look forward to a season of yummy, nutritious vegetables. We rejoice in watching a seed grow into a beautiful vegetable to consume or share. Happy spring.
