What’s New at the Library

By Stephanie Skinner

November 2025

In addition to a raft of new books and movies, there have been some wonderful programs at the library recently: Peter Cameron on The Origins of Otis as well as a History of Witches over 7,000 years, a much appreciated class on Guided Meditation by Viktoria Seavey from The Light Source Center, and other lively and packed events. We have something for everyone!

Check out these pictures from pumpkin painting led by a witch and cow! In addition, we learned something truly wonderful about Otis: we are surrounded by people with real creative juice. We launched an Open Mic Night and the town delivered. Ken Woolfe sang and played clarinet; Sue Brofman read poetry composed during her mountain climbing days; Diane Dyer broke our hearts with poetry about her lost firstborn and now the giggle of her grandson; Hillary Harley read a chilling passage from Orwell’s 1984; Jeanne Randorf made us laugh with The Cabbage Song – sung to the tune of The Sounds of Silence; I blubbered through a reading of a children’s book I wrote called The Loneliest Goose; and Susan Ebitz got us all singing in the round. Many more folks wanted to present but schedules got in the way. We’re doing it again on November 19th. Come and present or just listen and marvel at the hidden talents of people with whom you share our wonderful town.
